It Has to Change

Most consumers today are faced with difficult choices when it comes to the family budget, changes exacerbated by the ever-increasing prices of gas in particular and everything overall. Sadly enough, however, few of them think enough about the root cause of the current mess: runaway, unbridled capitalism. And as things continue to deteriorate, it's time that we started to question the things that we've been told by our leaders for so many years, leaders who encourage us to engage in an orgy of consumption as the be all and end all of our existence,

What if communism and capitalism both got it wrong, and maybe, just maybe work doesn't have to be the focus of our lives? What if we decided that we don't need quite so many things after all, and maybe our time on this world is worth something too? What if we all worked one day less a week, and saved all the fuel that we expend on the highways? What if greedy employers allowed more of their workers to telecommute where applicable? What if we all walked or biked to the store every now and then? What if we took our extra time from a reduced workweek and exercised to help reduce the number of chronic health problems? Or spent time with friends and family? Or planted and tended a vegetable patch? Or read a book?

There's a lot wrong with our society today. From the hideously bloated defense budget to the war in Iraq to the elite few who drain off an inordinate share of our resources to our over-consumption mentality. It has to change, and soon.
